Multicultural Greek Stroll Competition – April 4
6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Fowler Hall.
The Multicultural Greek Council will be holding a stroll competition, where various Greek organizations in the Purdue community will come together to showcase their own unique stroll routine to the rest of the campus. These strolls can be unique to the organizations’ heritage, traditions, or culture. A “stroll” is an energetic, synchronized dance typically performed by members of cultural Greek organizations. Performers move together in a line expressing pride for their organization through the use of their organization’s call, sign or historical information, ritual/custom dances, etc. All of this is done through movements that are unique to a particular organization.
Wall of Prejudice – April 21 – 23
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Memorial Mall.
This event is intended to engage the public in dialogue about the different prejudices people experience or have seen on campus. During the first two days of the wall, people will be able to write anything they have been prejudiced for in their life or seen happen. By writing it on the wall, any passerby is able to see everything people have experience on campus. It shows them that they are not alone. On the third day, the symbolism continues as people are able to break down the wall. To break down the wall, people will pay to take swings with different objects that have been cleared by the appropriate people. They will sign a waiver first as well. The money they pay will be then donated to the Elimination of Prejudice Foundation. The wall is never left unattended as it does have sensitive material and we want to make sure we always have someone present who has been trained on how to handle conversations surrounding the wall. Everyone manning it has been taught how to diffuse a situation where someone could take offense to material on the wall.
NPHC Step Show – April 26
7:00 – 10:00p.m., Loeb Playhouse.
Stepping and strolling is an important part of the culture and existence of our Black Greek Letter Organizations. The National Pan-Hellenic Council hosts this annual Step Show, a large performance that is open to the public to celebrate the history and tradition of stepping and strolling in the NPHC community.
