The Purdue University Latino Cultural Center and the Latinx Student Union invite ALL Purdue University students (grad, undergrad, domestic, international, Latinx, non-Latinx) to participate in in our free student retreat Conexiones.
Purdue University staff and community leaders will lead concurrent workshops on topics related to mental health, student success, financial literacy identity development, and civic engagement. Students will engage in meaningful dialogue while connecting to one another, to the LCC, and to resources on campus and in the community.

Keynote Speaker: Manuel Hernández-Nuñez, Executive Director ALMA Chicago
Manuel Hernández-Nuñez emerges as a distinguished advocate within the LGBTQ+ community,
renowned for his activism and role as a Community Organizer. With roots spanning Puerto Rico
and upbringing in New York City, he now takes great pride in his affiliation with Chicago.
Serving as the inaugural Executive Director of the Association of Latinos/as/xs Motivating
Action (ALMA), the Midwest's oldest Latinx LGBTQ+ organization, Manuel leverages nearly a
decade of experience in fostering communities, orchestrating organizational growth, and
cultivating financial support.
Manuel's professional journey embarked from a foundation as a math educator, evolving into
higher education administration. He dedicated his expertise to numerous institutions, steadfast in
their commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. His influence extends further as a
consultant and subject matter authority, partnering with local and national non-profits, burgeoning science and technology startups, as well as public and private educational establishments.
His impactful contributions garnered recognition from notable national and local media
platforms including NBC, Univision, Associated Press, and Comcast. Rooted in an unyielding
dedication to empowering underserved communities, Manuel founded the Hernández & Núñez
Consulting Group, LLC, a strategic consultancy. Currently at the helm as CEO and Principal
Consultant, he passionately propels the progress of small businesses and non-profits devoted to
aiding society's most marginalized and susceptible groups.
Manuel's academic accomplishments encompass a Bachelor of Science degree in Political
Science and a Master of Public Policy degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. His
journey underscores a commitment to uplifting voices that often go unheard, making him an
exemplar of advocacy and leadership.
