Academic Consultations
Student consultations with professional staff are available by appointment only. Consultations cover academic skills and strategies related to time management, studying for exams, and reaching other academic goals. Consultations are not for course registration information, prospective and admitted student meetings, or CODO planning; please see your academic advisor to discuss those topics. This service is free to all Purdue University undergraduate students.
Planning ahead for a consultation in Spring 2023? Please note that our consultants won't be able to update their Spring 2023 availability until Jan. 6 due to the timing of a backend system change. Want a notification when the semester availability is live? Email the ASC.
To schedule an appointment, please use the BoilerConnect system. Additional questions about consultations can be directed to academicsuccess@purdue.edu.
Schedule a ConsultationFrequently Asked Questions
What can I expect when I come to the ASC for a consultation?
In-person Consultations : When you arrive at the ASC, you will first check-in with a student assistant at the ASC desk. A staff member will come and meet you. Together, you and the academic consultant will discuss the strategies you currently utilize and your goals. The academic consultant will coach you through creating an action plan to help you reach your goals and be more successful. You'll receive information, referrals, and relevant handout(s). A follow-up consultation may be scheduled with the staff member or a Peer Success Coach.
For Virtual Consultations : When you make an appointment, your academic consultant will reach out to you with more information about connecting for your virtual appointment. As with the in-person consultation, your consultant will work with you to create an action plan to help you reach your success goals. You’ll receive information, referrals, and relevant handouts. You may schedule a follow-up consultation with the staff member or a Peer Success Coach.
How do I schedule an appointment?
To make an appointment, visit BoilerConnect and click on the blue "Make an Appointment" button. Select "Academic Support/Coaching" as the type of appointment, then choose "ASC Academic Consultations" as the service type. Select a time that works for your schedule and include a brief overview of what you'd like to discuss during the consultation in the comments section.
What do I need to bring to my consultation?
To optimize the time in your academic consultation, be sure to bring any questions you may have about your academic success and any other items that may be relevant to setting up a plan for your success. This may include your syllabus for each class, a planner, calendar, or other planning system that you may be using, recent notes or study sheets you've made, or other materials from your courses. For Virtual Consultations, it will also be helpful to have these same materials available as you work with your consultant to come up with an action plan for success.

The ASC is located in Wiley Residence Hall to the right of the hall main desk in the lobby area.

The ASC does not offer tutoring; however we have an online database of all of the campus academic support resources. We can work with you to identify which resource(s) might work best for you and your needs. In consultations, we do use example concepts in your content area to illustrate a strategy. Some students find that utilizing both the ASC for process knowledge and academic support resources for content-specific knowledge is a great way to improve in your classes.
Can I meet with a peer?
If you are wanting to meet with a peer leader, then the Peer Success Coaching program is a great resource. Similar to academic consultations, a Peer Success Coach (PSC) will help you create action plans and develop skills to support your academic success. A PSC can also help you work toward personal and social goals in addition to academic goals.
Do you work with a graduate student?
