History

The Asian and Asian American populations are among the fastest growing nationwide, both within higher education specifically as well as throughout the country as a whole. Purdue’s campus community has been reflective of these demographic shifts, as the Asian American undergraduate population has doubled in the last twenty years, while the Asian international undergraduate population has tripled in the last ten years. Along with these changes to the face of Purdue come individual and institutional challenges throughout the university. The AAARCC represents a conscious response to incorporate Asian and Asian American experiences as an integral aspect of the diverse and multi-faceted Purdue experience.

Founded in January 2015 as a result of the dedicated efforts from students, faculty and staff spanning back through Purdue's history, the AAARCC joins the Black Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Native American Educational and Cultural Center, and LGBTQ Center as an integral component in fostering a diverse and inclusive campus. After spending its first full academic year in the Stewart Center, the AAARCC has moved into a house in 915 5th Street and has been located there since Fall 2016. We look forward to expanding our mission and vision to provide education, integration, and support for the Purdue community.
