The Research Accelerator Learning Community aims to fast-track students to succeed in undergraduate research.

Research Accelerator accelerates student involvement in research, broadening their skillsets and preparing them for a variety of research environments.  Multiple studies have identified undergraduate research as a high-impact experience that is associated with higher levels of academic achievement and student satisfaction.

Students in Research Accelerator have access to a lively events calendar, including guest lectures by world-leading researchers. Past guests have included a representative from NASA, a scientist working with Mars rover data and a historian of the Soviet Union.

Students also have the opportunity to take advanced research-focused courses where they will gain experience participating in publishable research. Build your CV in the classroom!

What classes do I have to take as part of the R1 Learning Community?

Students enrolled in Research Accelerator will take two 1-credit, 8-week courses during their first year. Research Accelerator also offers students the opportunity to participate in advanced courses where they will gain practical experience participating in publishable research. 

Where will I live if I join the Research Accelerator Learning Community?

Research Accelerator students will live in Hillenbrand Hall, a centrally-located university residence with a dining court, recreational lounges, a fitness room and other amenities.

What activities and extracurricular events will be offered to Research Accelerator students?

Students will have access to a lively events calendar, including guest lectures by world-leading researchers in the sciences and humanities. Movie nights, social events and field trips will also be on offer.

What are the academic benefits of joining Research Accelerator?

Multiple studies have identified undergraduate research as a high-impact experience that is associated with higher levels of academic achievement and student satisfaction.

What qualifications do I need to be admitted to Research Accelerator?

First-year students admitted to any school, college or major at Purdue are welcome to apply. Students do not need to have had prior research experience to join.

I'm in humanities/arts/social sciences/STEM/agriculture/pre-vet/business. Does my major fit into Research Accelerator?

Students in all majors are invited to join Research Accelerator. There are research opportunities for every major at Purdue, and Research Accelerator helps prepare students to make the most of these opportunities.

Are there additional fees to participate in Research Accelerator?

There are no additional fees to participate in Research Accelerator. Students can join in Research Accelerator’s lively events calendar free of charge.
