Classroom Master Plan
The Classroom Master Plan will optimize both the physical classroom environment for flexible, active learning and the instructional methods to allow for meaningful in-person experiences. With an $8.4 million implementation plan that will modify 92 classrooms over the next four years (summers of 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026), the master plan will help position Purdue University as the most innovative, residential learning program in the U.S. among large research institutions.
Several classrooms will be modified to achieve between 20 to 30 assignable square feet (ASF) per seat (25 ASF is the average target), which supports different teaching and learning styles. This also includes changing furniture types and room layouts to provide flexibility and mobility for students, adding whiteboards where feasible, painting rooms, replacing flooring as fixed seating is removed and, in a few instances, full classroom renovations.
