This November 2023, the NAECC is excited to celebrate Native American Heritage Month to recognize, honor, and showcase Indigenous Peoples! All events are free, open to the entire campus community, and some require pre-registration. “Killers of the Flower Moon” Film Screening
Monday, October 30 | 7:00 pm | GQT Wabash Landing 9 Theatre, West Lafayette, Indiana
Theatrical viewing of the movie, “Killers of the Flower Moon” focused on the Osage tribe in Oklahoma and the mysterious circumstances of murdered tribal members in the 1920s.

Indigenous Cooking Demonstration featuring Mariah Gladstone

Founder of Indigikitchen, Mariah Gladstone (Blackfeet/Cherokee), will conduct cooking demonstration on campus. Her presentation will focus on Native foods and reclaiming of pre-contact foods using ingredients from around the Americas.
Sovereign Sustenance: Indigenous Food Sovereignty Talk and Cooking Demo
Friday, November 3 | 6:30 – 8:00 pm | Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis
Chef, educator, and founder of Indigikitchen Mariah Gladstone (Blackfeet/Cherokee) will talk about the meaning and significance of Indigenous food sovereignty and conduct a cooking demonstration with Indigenous recipes, which attendees will have a chance to sample.
This event is part of the Spirit and Place Festival and held in collaboration with the Eiteljorg Museum.
An Exploration of Myaamia Plant Relationships with Food, Medicine, and Technology
Wednesday, November 8 | 3:00 – 4:30 pm | NAECC
Dani Tippmann (Myaamia) will conduct presentation focused on Native ethnobotany and the use of plants in storytelling, food, medicine, and traditional Myaamia lifeways. She is the Eiteljorg Museum’s featured Artist-in-Residence for November.

Sustaining Cultural Heritage Through the Adoptee Experience

Join the AAARCC and the NAECC for a collaborative Speaker Series event featuring Chantel Cloud, former Chief Justice of the Southern Ute Tribal Court, and Podcaster, Speaker, and Creator Patrick Armstrong. Cloud will delve into the historical context and implications of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) while Patrick will share his personal journey of racial and ethnic identity exploration and development as a Korean American adoptee.
This event is held in collaboration with the Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center (AAARCC).

Indiana Native American Heritage Day Community Celebration

Community celebration honoring Native American Heritage Day in Indianapolis. Events include interactive workshops, hand drum performance, lecture presentation, film screening, and children's story book reading all featuring national and local Indigenous artists, scholars, performers, and presenters.

Fall Lunchbox Book Discussion featuring “Firekeeper’s Daughter”

The "Firekeeper's Daughter" has quickly become a fan favorite across the literary community. Author and Storyteller Angeline Boulley (Sault Ste. Marie Band of Chippewa Indians) debut novel raises awareness of Ojibwe traditions, self identity, and the significance of Indigenous language preservation. Join us for the discussion and lunch is included.

Native American Heritage Month Dance Performance featuring Supaman

Indigenous Hip Hop Artist and Champion Fancy Dancer Supaman will close out Native American Heritage Month at Purdue University. From the Apsaalooke Nation, Supaman provides unique dance performances, shares his empowering stories, and "good medicine" of resiliency, love, laughter, and inclusion.
This event is held in collaboration with the Black Cultural Center, Indigenous Student Association of Purdue, Native American and Indigenous Studies Program, Purdue AISES (American Indian Sciences and Engineering Society), and Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG).
