RecWell General Membership Policies

Membership Policies
  • Memberships are sold per individual and are not transferable
  • All membership sales require a valid government issued photo ID (if 16 years or older)
  • Eligible students, faculty/staff, alumni, and retirees of Purdue University may elect to purchase an individual membership, sponsor household membership(s), and dependent memberships
  • Individuals must sign all applicable waivers to obtain RecWell membership(s), services, and/or participate in any programming
Dependent Policies
  • Adults must use caution when supervising children participating in RecWell facilities, ensuring that activities are age and skill appropriate, as well as safe relative to other activities and users within specific spaces (RecWell Staff may restrict activity for safety considerations)
  • Guardians who are responsible for dependents must stay within the program area for the duration of the offering

 

Waiver Requirements
  • Purchasing a dependent full or limited membership will require their parent/guardian to sign a dependent waiver once, at the time of initial purchase
  • Purchasing a short term guest pass will require their parent/guardian to sign a waiver every time upon entering the facility

RecWell General Information

Code of Conduct
Members are expected to respect the rights of others and follow all University policies and codes as well as RecWell rules and procedures. Disruptive behavior, as determined by RecWell staff, is not tolerated. Failure to adhere to RecWell policies or procedures or University policies may result in a patron being removed from a facility/program, termination of their membership, and expulsion from Recreation and Wellness facilities and programs.
Attire
  • Tops, bottoms, and footwear are required in public areas of indoor facilities.  Please note exceptions listed in specific spaces within the facilities.
  • Clean, appropriate athletic attire must cover the breast and buttocks.  See-through garments are prohibited
  • Proper activity or general athletic footwear is required in all activity areas. All shoes should be free of mud and debris, with non-marking soles. Shoes must have a heel or heel strap and be close-toed. Socks and back-less shoes are prohibited.
Dependent Policies
  • Adults must use caution when supervising children participating in RecWell facilities, ensuring that activities are age and skill appropriate, as well as safe relative to other activities and users within specific spaces (RecWell Staff may restrict activity for safety considerations).
  • Youth aged 0-14 years old are not permitted to use fitness spaces.
  • Youth aged 0-16 must be always accompanied by an adult while using RecWell facilities, climbing and bouldering wall, gym courts, natatorium, rec pool, TREC, and programs.
  • Adults must be present at membership sell in order to sign facility access waiver.
Bicycles, Moped, and other Powered Devices
  • Parking a bicycle, moped, or other powered devices on a path, sidewalk, walkway, or obstructing a building exit is strictly prohibited.
  • No overnight parking is permitted on CREC premises.  Bicycles will be tagged, locks removed, and impounded by RecWell prior to Transportation Services taking possession.
  • Bicycles, mopeds, and other transportation devices are not to be chained to trees, light posts, or handrails.
  • Bicycles and non-plated mopeds are to be parked only in bicycle racks.
  • Motorcycles and plated mopeds are to be parked in the designated motorcycle parking are located northwest of the CoRec.
  • Skateboarding is prohibited on from RecWell grounds.
  • Skateboards are to be stored in the designated skateboard racks near each entrance
  • Improperly parked bicycles, mopeds, and other powered devices are subject to immediate impoundment.
  • Hoverboards are prohibited from all RecWell facilities.

RecWell General Facilities Policies

General Policies
  • Bags and other personal items must be stored in a rental locker, day-use locker, or cubby. RecWell is not responsible for any lost or stolen property.
  • All participants assume risk when they voluntarily take part in informal or programmed recreational activities.  Members and guests must abide by the decisions of RecWell Staff.
  • All participants must present a valid Purdue University ID or RecWell Member ID to gain access to RecWell facilities/programs.
  • Any violation of Purdue ID policies will be handled in accordance with university protocol.
  • Water and sports drink are allowed in sealable, shatterproof containers; all other food and drinks are prohibited.
  • Food is not permitted in any activity space without prior approval.
  • Alcohol, tobacco products, illegal drugs, firearms, and other weapons are strictly prohibited in all RecWell facilities and outdoor spaces.
  • Swords, nun-chucks, and similar martial arts weapons are prohibited.
  • Use of the facilities under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited and may result in removal from the facilities.
  • Pets, other than services animals, are not allowed in the facilities.
  • Organized group activities must have prior approval from the RecWell Reservations Team.  Activities will be subject to the discretion of the on-duty RecWell Staff Member.
  • Use of the facilities for paid coaching or instructional purposes is prohibited.
  • Bluetooth speakers are not permitted. Headphones must be worn when using personal electronic devices.
  • All patrons must exit facilities by posted closing time.
Courts/Gymnasium
  • Reservations and RecWell Program offerings take priority over open recreation play/activities.
  • Use will be on a first come, first-served basis. Members must respect the inclusion of additional drop-in participants.
  • Spitting is prohibited in all indoor facilities.
  • RecWell staff are responsible for set up and teardown of facility equipment, and for raising/lowering of basketball hoops, goals, etc.
  • Dunking is allowed; however excessive hanging on rims or nets is prohibited and may result in financial responsibility to the member for any damages incurred as a result.
  • All trash and personal item must be removed.
  • Any spills on the court must be cleaned immediately. Assistance from a RecWell Staff Member is strongly encouraged
  • The following sports are prohibited in all gym locations:
    • Soccer
    • Hockey
    • Baseball
    • Softball
    • Lacrosse
    • Football
Fitness Spaces
  • Any overhead lifts must be guided down with the participants’ hands remaining on the bar. Hands must remain on bar/weight until no longer in motion.
  • Collars/clips must always be used.
  • Excessive dropping and slamming of weights is prohibited.
  • All weights, bars, equipment must be returned to their proper rack/storage after use.
  • All cardio and fitness equipment must by wiped down by member after each use.
  • Unauthorized alteration, adjustment, relocation, or removal of equipment from its designated area is prohibited.
  • Use of weights on cardio equipment is prohibited.
  • All cardio and fitness equipment must by wiped down by member after each use.
  • All equipment should be used for its intended purposes as designate by the manufacturer.
  • Resistance bands are the only approved resistance equipment allowed on the squat rack band pegs or in the platform room.  All other physical alterations or additions to weight equipment, including chains, are prohibited.
  • Mixing powdered drinks in the fitness spaces is prohibited.
  • Climbing on top of equipment, hanging upside down, or performing acrobatic moves is prohibited. 
Olympic Lifting Room
  • Do not drop weights.  Users must be in control of the barbell and bumper plates at all times and guide the bar to the ground in a controlled manner
  • Bumper plates, Olympic barbells, and training barbells must remain in the platform room
  • Users may stand on bands on the lifting platforms.  Bands may not be attached to the bumper plate storage racks
  • Only the use of a chalk ball or liquid chalk is allowed on the lifting platforms. Loose chalk is prohibited. All chalk residue should be cleaned up after use.
Combative Arts Room
  • Feet and hands must be covered when striking bags
Multipurpose Rooms
  • Reservations and RecWell Program offerings take priority over open recreation play/activities.
  • Use will be on a first come, first-served basis. Members must respect the inclusion of additional drop-in participants.
  • Access to storage rooms is prohibited amongst non-RecWell employees.
  • Access to audio system is available for RecWell Program and private rental groups only.
  • Personal music is permitted but must not disturb others in adjacent spaces and must be below 80 decibels
  • All wrestling and martial arts activities are prohibited unless affiliated with a Purdue approved club
Multi-Activity Court (MAC)
  • Sitting on the dasher boards is prohibited
  • Skate wheels should be indoor wheels or thoroughly cleaned before using the space
  • RecWell strongly encourages all skaters to wear helmets.  Additionally, hockey goalkeepers should wear masks and pads
Racquetball/Squash/Wallyball Courts
  • Reservations and RecWell Program offerings take priority over open recreation play/activities.
  • Use will be on a first come, first-served basis and must respect the inclusion of additional drop-in participants.
  • Protective eyewear is highly recommended
  • Sports that use hard balls (baseball, softball, lacrosse, etc.) are prohibited
  • Sports using a soft ball such as tennis is permitted
  • Table tennis tables are not to be moved or collapsed without RecWell Staff assistance
Indoor Tracks
  • Throwing and kicking of objects and equipment is prohibited.
  • The track is not a spectator area for events below.
  • Weightlifting exercises and equipment are not permitted on the track.
  • Water and sports drink are allowed in sealable, shatterproof containers; all other food and drinks are prohibited.
  • All trash and personal items must be removed.
  • Walkers and slower moving traffic should keep to the inside lane (no more than two people wide).  Faster moving traffic should pass on the outside.

Videography/Photography Policies

General
  • Recording and photography in locker rooms, restroom areas, pools and saunas is prohibited.
  • All recording may be stopped by Recreation & Wellness staff at any time, regardless of prior approvals, to maintain the safety and comfort of all members.
  • All members who have been approved to record to take photographs in RecWell facilities must wear an approved photographer/videographer badge at all times. 
  • Any member who suspects they are being recorded without their consent may come to the front Member Services desk or approach any Operations staff for assistance.
Recreation & Wellness Staff
  • Recreation & Wellness staff frequently take photos and videos of our spaces and programs. All staff wear Recreation & Wellness uniforms and photographer/videographer badges when working in open areas of Recreation & Wellness facilities.
  • Members who do not wish to be in videos or photos must approach and inform the photographer/videographer working.
Academic Projects
  • All academic project inquiries must be sent to the Assistant Director of Fitness & Outreach. Project inquiries must be submitted at least 14 days prior to desired shoot date to be considered for approval. When submitting a request to record or take photos within RecWell facilities for an academic project, the following must be included with the initial inquiry:
    • Student contact information (First and last name, email)
    • Course syllabus
    • Project description
    • Written confirmation of the project from the professor
    • Professor contact information (First and last name, email)
  • All projects will be approved on a case by case basis per the discretion of Recreation & Wellness staff.
Commercial Use
  • All commercial photography/video inquires must be sent to the Assistant Director of Fitness & Outreach. Inquiries must be submitted at least 21 days prior to desired shoot date to be considered for approval.
  • All inquires of photography/video for commercial use will be approved on a case by case basis per the discretion of Recreation & Wellness staff.
Personal Use
  • Recording or taking photos for personal use on cellular devices without focusing on individuals is permitted. Focusing on specific small groups or individuals without their expressed written consent is prohibited.
  • Using large cameras and tripods to record or take photos for personal use is prohibited.

Turf Recreation and Exercise Center (TREC)

TREC Policies
  • Reservations and RecWell Program offerings take priority over open recreation play/activities.
  • Use will be on a first come, first-served basis and must respect the inclusion of additional drop-in participants.
  • Metal baseball-type cleats and metal-tipped molded cleats are prohibited.
  • At the completion of their use, individuals/groups are responsible for returning team benches to the condition in which they found them.
  • All trash and personal items must be removed.
  • Bags and other personal items must be stored in a rental or day-use locker, and will not be allowed on or around the edges of turf.
  • Tackle football is not permitted on synthetic turf field.
  • Individuals and/or groups are responsible for communicating removal of all sport specific equipment needs with RecWell staff.
  • Food is not permitted on the field, this includes gum.
  • Hitting or throwing balls into the net or curtain is not permitted unless it is part of the normal course of play (golf is not permitted).
  • Participants are not permitted to be on the concrete along the perimeter of the turf.
  • No hanging on the goals or nets.

Climbing Wall, Bouldering, and Hang Board

General Policies
  • Safety is our top concern. Recwell staff are the final authority over safe practices. Staff reserves the right to correct participants’ behavior at any time for unsafe or inappropriate behavior. Habitual offenses will result in loss of climbing privileges.
  • Helmet use is recommended. Recwell helmets are available for day-use for free.
  • Participants may not move or tighten holds. Please inform a RecWell Staff Member of any loose holds.
  • Footwear:
    • Climbing shoes are the only acceptable footwear. 
    • Barefoot climbing or open toed shoes are not permitted. 
  • Minors: 
    • Children under the age of 18 must have their parent/legal guardian sign Risk Waiver on their behalf. 
    • Children under the age of 15 must always be supervised by and in the company of their parent/legal guardian. 
    • Any climber 15 years of age or older may qualify to belay after appropriate lessons. 
  • Bouldering:
    • Climbing onto the top of the bouldering wall is prohibited.
    • Bat hangs are prohibithed on the bouldering wall.
    • Bouldering mats are to be used for bouldering only.  No standing, sitting, or laying on the mats.
  • Top rope climbing:
    • Climbers and belayers must check-in at the Climbing Center before entering the top rope area. 
    • Patrons must be tied in to climb on the top rope wall.
    • Belayers must have a belay tag visible. Transfer of belay tags is prohibited.
    • Participants will use a Recwell provided harness, or a personal harness that has been examined by the Climbing Center staff prior to use. Personal harnesses must have leg loops, be tied according to manufacturer directions, and have no frayed or broken stitching. Patrons are expected to use the harness according to manufacturer directions.
    • Belay-qualified members may use RecWell belay devices. Participants may also use their personal Grigri, Grigri+, or tubular aperture devices (i.e., ATC), after inspection and approval from RecWell staff. 
    • Patrons are expected to belay using the PBUS method. Staff reserve the right to have participants re-test their belay skills at any time. 
  • Hang board:
    • Shoes must be worn during hang board workouts.
    • Hanging from the mounting structure is prohibited.
    • Resistance bands should only be attached to the supplied carabiners below each hang board.

Challenge Course

General Policies
  • All participants must provide a complete waiver prior to participating in all activities.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required. Shoes must have a rubber sole and must be athletic in nature. No exceptions will be made.
  • Clothing should be comfortable and loose to allow free movement. Athletic clothing, jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and shorts are all acceptable. Bulky jackets or the like may need to be removed.
  • Loose or excessive jewelry is not allowed.
  • Long hair should be tied back.
  • Personal harnesses, helmets and/or other climbing gear will not be permitted.
  • Pregnant women will be prohibited from participating in any activities that require their feet to leave the ground for risk management and liability purposes.
  • Individuals that exceed the weight limit of 250 pounds may not be permitted to participate in certain, or specified, group activities.

Aquatic Policies

General Policies
  • All persons shall take a cleansing shower before using the pool.  A bather leaving the pool to use the toilet shall take another cleansing shower before returning to the pool
  • Anyone who has or has had diarrhea in the past two (2) weeks shall not use the pool
  • Anyone who has an area of exposed sub epidermal tissue, open blisters, cuts, etc. is advised not to use the pool
  • Band-Aids and bandages are prohibited in pools and spas
  • Glass, food, beverages, gum or tobacco products are prohibited
  • Spitting, spouting of water, blowing the nose and similar behavior in the pool is prohibited
  • Hyperventilation or the holding of one's breath underwater for an extended period of time is prohibited
  • No running or rough play is permitted in the pools or aquatic equipment
  • Clean, appropriate attire designed for swimming is required.  Swimwear must cover the breast and buttocks.  Street clothes and see through swimwear is prohibited
  • All diaper aged children shall use plastic pants with tight fitting elastic at the legs and waist or swim diapers
  • Do not change diapers at poolside
  • Lifeguards have the responsibility to enforce regulations and have the authority to remove anyone for unsafe or inappropriate behavior
  • Individuals 15 years of age and younger must be supervised by a parent/guardian/adult chaperone at all times, except when participating in a structured RecWell program/service
  • Children age 5 or under must be directly supervised by an adult/guardian (above age 18) in the water and within arm's reach at all times
  • Only U.S. Coast Guard approved flotation devices are allowed.  All other flotation devices are prohibited.  Only RecWell water toys are allowed
Diving Pool
  • Only the 1m diving boards and 1m platform are available for recreational use.  Use of diving towers above 1m is restricted to approved groups
  • All jumps and dives must be in a straight forward direction.  Inwards, reverse dives, handstands, and seat drops are not permitted
  • Only one person on a diving board at a time
  • Only one bounce per jump or dive
  • Swim directly to the nearest stair or ladder after each entry
Spa
  • Individuals five and under cannot use the spa.  An adult in the spa must accompany children 6-15 years of age
  • Use of the spa is limited to 15 minutes (young children should be limited to 10 minutes or less)
  • Use of the spa begins with any part of the body entering the water and/or sitting on the edge of the spa
  • Exposure greater than 15 minutes may result in drowsiness, nausea or fainting
  • Allow at least a 15 minute cool down before reusing the spa
  • Pregnant women, small children, or persons with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or low blood pressure should not enter the spa except under the advice of a physician
  • Avoid use while under the influence of alcohol, tranquilizers, or other drugs that cause drowsiness or raise or lower blood pressure
Sauna
  • Individuals 15 and under, expectant mothers as well as individuals with medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and respiratory problems should not use the sauna
  • Recommended maximum use is 10 minutes per sitting
  • Drink water prior, during, and after use.  All other food and drink is prohibited
  • Leave the sauna immediately if nausea, dizziness, hot flashes, cold chills, headaches, or other discomfort are experienced
  • Excess clothing such as a sweat suit or rubberized suit are prohibited in the sauna 
  • Remove all jewelry before using the sauna
  • Tampering with sauna controls is prohibited
Co-Ed Sauna
  • After using the sauna, participants must shower prior to entering the pool or whirlpool
  • Clean swimsuit-like attire must be worn and participants are required to bring a towel to sit on when using the sauna
Locker Room Saunas
  • At least a towel must be worn in the sauna at all times

Locker Rooms and Day Use Lockers

Locker Rooms
  • Recreation and Wellness is not responsible for damaged or stolen personal property.  Secure all belongings
  • Respect the rights and privacy of others
    • Loitering, obscenity, and sexual activity is prohibited
    • Consistent with federal nondiscrimination guidelines, individuals may use restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity
    • Gender Inclusive and Family Locker Rooms are also available, furnished with an infant changing table, restroom, and shower
    • Due to photographic/video capabilities, cell phone use is prohibited in the locker rooms
  • Oil based products are prohibited in shower areas
  • Wet items should not be stored in lockers.  A swimsuit is the only items that should be placed in the water extractors
  • All patrons must leave the locker area by the posted closing time
  • Children under the age of 13 must be supervised in the locker room at all times
  • Private Changing Rooms are available, furnished with an infant changing table, restroom, and shower
Aquatic Center Locker Rooms
  • All patrons must leave the locker room 30 minutes after closing time
  • Interior access from aqua wet corridor to CREC is alarmed 15 minutes after scheduled open recreation time
Day Use Lockers
  • Purdue Recreation & Wellness encourages members to store personal belongings in a locker while using the facilities.
  • Day use lockers are available on all levels and in the locker rooms
  • Locks are available at no charge at the Equipment Center
  • Overnight storage is prohibited.
  • Any locks remaining at the end of the day are subject to being cut off at the owner's expense and all items confiscated.
  • Confiscated items will be placed at Member Services.  Wet, soiled, or unhygienic items will be discarded.
  • If you forget your combination to a Day Use Locker or misplace the key to a lock rented from the Equipment Center, staff are available to open the locker if:You have the proper identification in the locker to show the staff member
  • You can clearly identify all contents in the locker before opening
  • If you forget your combination or misplace your key for a personal lock, staff are available to cut the lock if. Member must fill out the documentation form at Member Services
    • If you are incorrect about the lock that needs cut you will be responsible for replacement of said lock and for any fees deemed appropriate
    • Failure to pay may result in suspended membership
  • If your items are stored in an unlocked locker which becomes occupied and locked by another user you must either:
    • Wait until the building closes for a RecWell Staff Member to retrieve your items
    • Wait until the locker becomes available again

Massage Therapy

Policies
  • Massage sessions must be paid for in advance
  • Clients must be at least 18 years of age
  • The massage therapy new client packet must be filled out and provided to the massage therapist at the beginning of the first session
  • Clients should contact the wellness suite, 765-496-1788, if he/she knows they will be late.  If a client is late, the session will only last until the end of the time for which the session was scheduled
  • If needed, sessions must be rescheduled 24 hours in advance.  Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the session and payment.  Clients should call the wellness suite, 765-496-1788, to reschedule
  • We do not bill insurance companies directly.  If a client has medical insurance that covers massage therapy, RecWell can provide a receipt and other applicable documents for reimbursement
  • Clients need to maintain an appropriate level of personal hygiene and should refrain from wearing strong perfume or cologne during their session.  If a client exercises before their massage, they need to shower before their session.  The massage therapist reserves the right to refuse to perform a massage for any hygiene issues
  • Clients should silence their cell phones and put them away during the massage session
  • If a client initiates a sexual advance during a massage, the session will end immediately and the client will be asked to leave.  A refund will not be provided
  • Clients should reschedule appointments when they are feeling unwell.  If a client arrives with a contagious illness, the massage session will be rescheduled
  • Massage therapists do not work within the scope of licensed medical professionals and therefore do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide treatment for a specific condition.  If any situation arises during the massage session, the therapist will refer the client for diagnosis and to follow the recommendations of the their physician

Group X

No-Show Policy
No-Show Policy
  • An empty space in class means that another participant is being kept from joining the class.
  • Participants will be charged a $5 no-show fee for any pre-booked sessions that are "late cancelled" or are "no show". 
  • Participants who fail to cancel their registration at least 15 minutes before the start of class or do not show up, will have their account and access to the CoRec suspended until they pay the $5 no-show fee at the Member Services desk at the CoRec.

Follow these steps to cancel a reservation:

  • Step 1: Login to the RecWell Member Portal.
  • Step 2: Click "Log In" in the top right hand corner, then BoilerKey in.
  • Step 3: Click your picture in the top right hand corner, then select "Profile"
  • Step 4: Under "View Account", click on "Programs".
  • Step 5: Find the class you want to cancel and select the three dots (right-hand side) and click "Cancel Registration".
  • Step 6: On the confirmation page, click "Yes, Cancel Registration".
