The LGBTQ Center provides 4 different interactive and educational programs by request for instructors, staff, students, departments, and community organizations. Review the program descriptions below for more information.

How to Request a Program

Your request is not confirmed until you have received an email confirmation from a staff member. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request as schedules permit. There is no cost associated with hosting an educational program provided by the LGBTQ Center. Please allow 5 business days for a response.

Program Descriptions

Introduction and Overview of the LGBTQ Center (15-30 minutes)

This workshop serves as an introduction to the Purdue LGBTQ Center and an overview of our mission, which includes educational programs, community-building opportunities, professional and personal development, and resource navigation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Gain understanding of the LGBTQ Center at Purdue, its programs and its resources.
2.  Identify ways to get involved in LGBTQ community at Purdue, including LGBTQIA+ student organizations, Purdue Employee Pride (LGBTQ employee resource group), gender-inclusive living, and more.

Best Practices for LGBTQ+ Inclusion (45-60 minutes)

This program is designed to educate audiences about how to create LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces. This includes foundational terminology, an overview of American concepts of gender & sexuality, an intersectional approach to LGBTQ allyship, and interpersonal allyship guidance. Content will be customized to fit the group (e.g., student organization, departmental staff meeting, community organizations, etc.).

Learning Objectives:

1. Gain understanding of the LGBTQ Center at Purdue, its programs and its resources
2. Attendees will learn foundational LGBTQ+ terminology including concepts of gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientations
3. Understand concepts of intersectional feminism and how it applies to allyship to the LGBTQ community
4. Identify major challenges the LGBTQ community experiences and how these challenges impact daily lives
5. Learn about actionable steps they can take to grow their allyship beyond the constraints of the workshop

Pronouns (45-60 minutes)

Modeled after our collaboration with Purdue Orientation Programs to normalize pronoun usage during Boiler Gold Rush, this workshop will explain the difference between gender identity and gender expression and how that relates to someone's pronouns, or, how we refer to them when not using their name. Attendees will practice sharing their own pronouns, asking for others’ pronouns, and learn best practices for affirming pronoun usage. They will also hear from current members of the LGBTQ Center’s Speaker’s Bureau about how impactful sharing pronouns can be.

Learning Objectives:

1.  Learn about gender identity, gender expression, and the use of pronouns
2.  Practice sharing their own pronouns and asking for pronouns from others
3.  Understand and be able to explain some of the misconceptions around sharing of pronouns

Panel Discussions (30-90 minutes)

The Purdue LGBTQ Center manages the the Speakers Bureau program, which consists of LGBTQIA+ and ally students, staff, and faculty who use the power of their own stories to educate and bring awareness to the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. Simply answering questions openly and honestly, panelists can break down stereotypes, build safer spaces on and off campus, and promote dialogue around challenging ideas.

If the other workshops that we offer aren't what you're looking for, consider hosting a panel discussion. Panels are much more versatile and customizeable to your event and you hear directly from students about their experiences.
