DREAMzone Training

About DREAMZone:

Founded in 2012, DREAMzone ins an educational intervention, created at Arizona State University, designed to provide counselors and other human service professionals in education with awareness, knowledge, and skills for working with undocumented and DACAmented students. DREAMzone was created in an effort to acknowledge and address the unique challenges encountered by undocumented and DACAmented students and increase their educational attainment. DREAMzone seeks to reduce stigma and discrimination toward undocumented and DACAmented immigrants by promoting more culturally sensitive practices for responding to the presence and needs of undocumented students. 

Learning Objectives:

1) Identify and deconstruct preconceptions of undocumented immigrants;

2) increase knowledge about laws and policies affecting the experience of undocumented and DACAmented students; 

3) Engage in direct contact with DACAmented students; and

4) Acquire skills, practices and resources for working with DACAmented and undocumented students.

Become a DREAMzone program member:

Upon completion of the workshop, attendees can choose to become a DREAMzone member by completing a contract expressing their commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion at Purdue. Additionally, DREAMzone members display a placard in a visible location, such as a door to an office or residence hall, that identifies them as a friend, supporter and campus resource for anyone seeking information or a listening ear. This placard identifies dedicated safe spaces on campus for Undocumented and DACAmented  people to connect with allies to the community.

 DREAMzone MEMBERS

  • Actively participate in developing a visible and supportive community
  • Continue their own education around immigration
  • Share their knowledge, modeling language and behavior that is inclusive
  • Advocate for a campus community free from discrimination and bias

DREAMzone members are not expected to:

  • Be experts on all topics related to immigration
  • Provide emotional support or act as therapists (unless they are a licensed therapist acting in their role as a therapist)
